Christmas, BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT

1st of December hits and instead of excitement, it’s mixed emotions, anxiety, apprehension, and a whole lot of uncertainty. Doesn’t really sound like the festive season, does it?

But for so many of us SEND parents, this is our Christmas.

For six years, Kane hasn’t cared about Christmas. No requests for Santa. No idea who “Elf on the Shelf” even is. An advent calendar? More of a throwable object than a countdown to anything.

And when it comes to presents…well, half the time we’ve got no clue what to get our kids because the “typical” toys are exactly that—typical. Neurotypical. Not our world.

So if we seem a bit less enthusiastic about Xmas, it’s not that we’re grumpy. It’s that, like every other day, it brings more challenges than cheer. It’s sprinkled with problems rather than Christmas pudding.

Two weeks off school? That’s two weeks with routines out the window.

People visiting “because it’s Christmas”? Cue the chaos.
And juggling children with completely opposite needs? Honestly, just shoot me now 🤣🤣

We’re not humbugs—promise. Parents love the idea of Christmas with little ones. It’s meant to be magical. But not all of us get to experience it the way we once imagined.

So if our Christmas looks different…that’s because it is.
